Castle Donington FC v Invitation XI FC

This week due to a break from league games Castle Donington FC took the opportunity to play a friendly against an invitation XI. The game started with home side playing the better football with and creating chances with Miller, Gourlay and Lee doing well for the home side. At the other end the home sides defence of Milward, Bosworth, Sharpe, Rayns, and Wilkinson were having to cope with some very quick forwards, with Milward pulling off some excellent saves. Eventually the homes sides experience told with Varney scoring and Lee getting a brace. By this time forward Miller was having a real influence on the teams overall performance. The first half ended with the home side playing well with Mumford and Fisher working hard in midfield.

Half Time: castle Donington 3 v 0 Invitation XI

The second half began with the visitors having the best of the early exchanges, but the home side were determined to give a good account of themselves and were lifted when first keeper Milward pulled off a great save and then Lee scored his third and his hat trick after a great through ball by Mumford found Gourlay who crossed to for Lee to score. The young Donington side were playing some good football and Gourlay made it five for the home side, they then introduced super sub Andy Exall who gave by now a tired visitors defence a difficult time due to his explosive pace. The visitors did get a consolation goal late on as the home side relaxed. After the Game Coaches Bill McFarlane and Matt Hart said that they were very pleased with the overall performance of the team especially as the aim of today was two fold, first to keep the match fitness and second to promote the club and team, they also added that their long term aim was to improve the team technically and tactically.

Final score: Castle Donington 5 v 1 invitation XI
